Grammar in a nutshell

Grammar allows the speaker or writer to express themselves with precision.  It helps the receiver of a message to understand more clearly the intended purpose of the communication. Not using correct grammar can make your words unclear and may obscure your intended idea.

One of the most basic elements of grammar is mastery of tenses. Tenses are all about time. They convey when the action is done or is to be done. While time markers, such as yesterday, today, and tomorrow indicate time, using the proper tense is more elegant than leaving the reader to guess why the time marker and time of the action are out of sync. For example, ¨Yesterday, I go to the market,¨ lets you know that the speaker did the action the day before. The use of the wrong tense, however, sounds choppy and makes the messenger sound inarticulate.

If you are unsure about how to use tenses properly in English, you may want to check out the series of YouTube videos called Grammar in a Nutshell on the YouTube channel called Amy Sindicic. Grammar in a Nutshell gives the form of each tense, with explanations and examples of how it is used.  I look forward to reading your comments on my YouTube channel.
